I Just Need a QR
A few days ago, a friend texted me because he needed to generate a QR code. Nothing fancy - just one, quickly, to print and stick on a poster. But every page he found asked him to create an account, accept cookies, customize colors and logos, and in the end… he couldn’t even download the QR without signing up.
And that got me thinking:
Do we really need to give away that much information just for a QR code?
🧠 When simple things become complicated
It’s funny how something as basic as generating a QR code has turned into a small trap. Most sites that claim to offer this “for free” hide a data collection or marketing goal behind the scenes. They want to know who you are, what you generate, and how you use it.
They ask for your email, track your actions, or flood the page with analytics scripts. Others overwhelm you with unnecessary design options - gradients, logos, borders, background colors - that have nothing to do with what a QR was meant for: transmitting information easily.
The result is always the same: something that should take ten seconds becomes a long, noisy, and sometimes untrustworthy process.
🧩 The motivation behind it
So I decided to build my own version.
A free QR generator, with no sign-ups, no tracking, and no uploads - everything runs locally in your browser using qrcode.js.
No cookies, no analytics, no forms. Just a small tool that does what it should: turn text into a QR. Nothing else.
You can create:
- Text or URLs
- Wi-Fi networks (to share passwords easily)
- Basic vCards with name, email, and phone
And then download the result as a PNG image. No ads, no hidden limits, no forced branding.
🔒 Real privacy, not fine print
There’s no “private mode” or vague promise - nothing you generate leaves your device. The QR code is created locally, in memory, and disappears once you close the page.
That means:
- No logs, no usage tracking.
- No databases or cloud storage.
- No personal information shared anywhere.

This tool isn’t meant for marketers or campaign tracking. It’s built for the small, practical things we all do:
- Sharing your Wi-Fi without spelling out the password.
- Printing a QR for a survey, event, or feedback form.

None of that should require creating an account or seeing an ad. It should just work.
