Why Harmonia?
Coding for hours isn’t just about writing lines of code - it’s about finding a rhythm that keeps you focused without burning out. Harmonia began as an experiment to make my workspace feel calm and personal: natural colors, not neon; a theme that doesn’t shout - it breathes.
Over time, it evolved from small color tweaks into a full design system built on balance, ergonomics, and contrast you can feel after a long day of work.
What it solves
- Calibrated tones for low visual fatigue during long sessions.
- Predictable syntax colors for faster recognition and flow.
- Multiple variants for different contexts: OLED, High Contrast, or Paper-like Light.
It’s not about being the flashiest theme - it’s about being the most sustainable for your eyes.
Before / After
- Before: pure blacks, harsh neons, high-contrast fatigue.
- With Harmonia: soft gradients, natural light balance, calm contrast.
Principles → Decisions
- Consistency: same role → same hue across all languages.
- Ergonomics: luminance between 7-12% (Dark) and 92-96% (Light).
- Character: inspired by real pigments, not digital RGB hues.
- Precision: tested color pairs in Dark, Light, and High Contrast.
Variants
- Dark · balanced and neutral foundation for daily use.
- Noir · deep violet-black background for late focus sessions.
- Light / Paper White · paper-like tone for readability and writing.
- High Contrast · clean, accessible, still elegant.
- OLED True Black · optimized for OLED panels.
- Aurora · expressive accents for creative coding.
Each variant follows the same philosophy but adapts the tone and depth to match how you feel when you code.
Accessibility
- Minimum contrast ratio 4.5:1; 7:1 in High Contrast mode.
- Focus states use outlines and halos, not just color.
- Avoids red/green for critical semantics.
